Isabel Oli Blows SM Bacoor!

I was in SM Bacoor with Tita Edna, Tita Lisa and my girlfriend. We were near the grocery section when we heard that PLDT is having an event.

PLDT Crew Kat Alano, Isabel Oli, and some lucky dude were on stage and giving away some gadgets and stuff to the lucky audience. If only I were not with my girlfriend and her mom and tita, I'm pretty sure I would have been much closer to the stage than I was. Kat Alano and Isabel Oli would have been friends with my HTC Touch Pro camera. That moment would have quenched my 'thirst' for celebrity sightings.

I was able to snap some shots here and there but, darn, I am not gonna post them here. The pictures I took will not give justice to the beauty those gals have prepared for the audience. The pictures were blurry because I was in a hurry to take them.

The event was about the PLDT Ultra Broadband Blowout, where thousands got to apply on the spot for myDSL with just one valid ID, no cash out on brand new laptop with free myDSL of up to four months. I have always wanted to get a stable internet connection at home but still can't decide which provider to sign up for. PLDT got Isabel Oli and the gang to 'pimp' their plans and services. But does it work? Well, they got the crowd--mostly men, by the way-- but will they get their loyalty too?

PLDT got me thinking of considering their internet services for a minute there.

It's a Dell Inspiron Mini!

I always wanted to have one and now Tita Vangie is selling her Dell Inspiron Mini for only Php17,000. So I texted her right away and asked if I could buy it from her. I was surprised to notice that she was a bit surprised herself that I would want to buy it. I mean, it's a Dell Inspiron Mini, for cryin' out loud. She hesitatingly agreed that I buy it from her.

Silly me, I just bought a Dell Inspiron Mini which is Pink! No wonder she was surprised that I was interested in buying it. Lesson learned; the color pink is not for me. :-)

Steve Jobs Rules!

Apple has affected a great deal in people’s lives in this era.

Steve Jobs made Apple what it is right now.

Steve Jobs is gone now. Sad.

The day he died, people have been writing, tweeting, and posting on their ‘walls’ stuff about the genius behind Apple. One can just think how a drop-out can be one of the influential people in our age. I heard some of my friends blurting out how they should have stopped school to ‘do what they love to do’. They would have wanted to ‘stay hungry and be foolish’.

One of the blogs that I read actually posted about the 12 Rules of Success by Steve Jobs. It was one of great way of thanking ‘the guy behind the Apple’. Fitz Villafuerte gave tribute to Steve Jobs by sharing his rules to be successful.

I would like to do the same. Even if I only had one Apple product (like Fitz himself), I am aware how 'The Great Steve Jobs' changed the way people live nowadays.

Let’s pick up some of his mind.

12 Rules of Success by Steve Jobs
1. Do what you love to do. Find your true passion. Make a difference. The only way to do great work is to love what you do.

2. Be different. Think different. Better to be a pirate than to join the navy.
3. Do your best at every job. Don’t sleep! Success generates more success so be hungry for it. Hire good people with a passion for excellence.
4. Perform SWOT analysis. As soon as you join/start a company, make a list of strengths and weaknesses of yourself and your company on a piece of paper. Don’t hesitate to throw bad apples out of the company.

5. Be entrepreneurial. Look for the next big thing. Find a set of ideas that need to be acted upon quickly and decisively and jump through that window. Sometimes the first step is the hardest one. Just take it. Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.

6. Start small, think big. Don’t worry about too many things at once. Take a handful of simple things to begin with, and then progress to more complex ones. Think about not just tomorrow, but the future. Put a ding in the universe.

     7. Strive to become a market leader. Own and control the primary technology in everything you do. If there’s a better technology available, use it regardless of whether or not anyone else is using it. Be the first, and make it an industry standard.

    8. People judge you by your performance, so focus on the outcome. Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.Advertise. If they don’t know about it, they won’t buy your product. Pay attention to design. We made the buttons on the screen look so good you’ll want to lick them. Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.

    9. Ask for feedback from people with diverse backgrounds. Each one will tell you one useful thing. If you’re at the top of the chain, sometimes people won’t give you honest feedback because they’re afraid. In this case, disguise yourself, or get feedback from other sources. Focus on those who will use your product – listen to your customers first.

    10. Innovate. Innovation distinguishes a leader from a follower. Delegate. Let other top executives do 50% of your routine work to be able to spend 50% your time on the new stuff. Say no to 1,000 things to make sure you don’t get on the wrong track or try to do too much. Concentrate on really important creations and radical innovation. Hire people who want to make the best things in the world. You need a very product-oriented culture, even in a technology company. Lots of companies have tons of great engineers and smart people. But ultimately, there needs to be some gravitational force that pulls it all together.

    11. Learn from failures. Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations.

   12. Learn continually. There’s always “one more thing” to learn. Cross-pollinate ideas with others both within and outside your company. Learn from customers, competitors and partners. If you partner with someone whom you don’t like, learn to like them – praise them and benefit from them. Learn to criticize your enemies openly, but honestly.

Honestly, I have always dreamed of one day being able to give a speech that people can learn from. Affecting people in a nice way can really give me a sense of purpose. It can sometimes give me that needed boost to do better next time.

Do you have something you can add to what Steve Jobs pointed out?

Goodbye, Steve Jobs.

Thank you for the innovation. Thank you for all the joy you brought to everyone who have been purchasing every invention your creative mind cooked up.

It is never going to be the same for the Apple fanatics. We hope though that Apple will not put your works to waste.

Rest in peace, our Genius Friend. Heaven will now be more high-tech than ever. :-)
